Health Minister Chetan Singh Jauramajra pulled up the staff members as well as officials concerned when he found heaps of garbage, stinking toilets and stagnant water in the Community Health Centre building, here today. Following this, the minister directed the local SDM and the Municipal Council Executive Officer to put the things in order within a week.
He also handed over Rs 10,000 from his pocket to a district administration official asking to spend it on minor repairs of the hospital.
It was around 10 am when Jauramajra reached the hospital without prior information only to find that rain water was stagnating in the open areas of building and heaps of garbage, including medical waste was lying in one of the corners. When entered the main building, the minister noticed that the ceiling fan in waiting area was not working properly and even sitting arrangement for patients was not sufficient. The toilets in the hospital were also in bad shape.
Senior Medial Officer Manjit Singh tried to convince the minister that the garbage was picked up by the municipal council staff in the afternoon, but the annoyed minister said it seemed that the garbage was not picked up for years from the hospital. He said such things could be solved on local level provided the officials concerned bothered to take notice of the problems being faced by the patients.
