Rajiv Miglani, Station House Officer at Sector 5 police station, said, “The police has filed a case on the complaint of victim’s mother. A case has been filed under Section 363 (punishment for kidnapping) and 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing a woman to compel her for marriage, etc.) of the Indian Penal Code against the accused Beera.”
In an interesting twist, a bridegroom, dressed in wedding finery on the day of his marriage, went to police station to register a case of kidnapping against his own uncle. The victim is 12 years’ old and her mother is the groom’s relative.
The mother has filed a complaint with the police alleging that her daughter was kidnapped by the uncle of the groom, who was set to get married in Kharak Mangoli here on Monday. Victim’s mother alleged that groom’s uncle Beera, who is father of three children, has taken her daughter away.
The family of the girl had come to attend the marriage from Jagatpura village in Mohali.
As the groom accompanied victim’s mother to Sector 7 police post, rumours spread on the social media that a baraat has been taken into custody. However, police officials refuted this news.
