Miscreants set Ravana effigy afire in Sector 30

Eyewitness saw two boys wearing helmets fleeing the spot

The Ravana effigy burnt by some miscreants on the eve of Dasehra at Sector 30-A, Chandigarh, on Wednesday night.

Miscreants set afire an effigy of Ravana put up at a ground in Sector 30 a day before Dasehra festivities. The incident, which took place around 11 pm today, left the effigy completely damaged.

Ashwani Bal Dramatic Club Dusshera Committee Sector 30-B president Chandan informed, “We knew there was a chance that miscreants may try such things. We had expected better vigilance from the police and even informed the nearest Beat and station house officer. More than money, it’s about the hard work put in by the club and Dasehra committee.”

An eyewitness, a security officer at the RBI Colony, said he saw two boys wearing helmets fleeing from the spot.

Residents and club members were watching a Ramlila performance near the ground at the time. A policeman on duty also said that he was on a round of the Ramlila site when the incident took place.
