Chandigarh, January 12

The naked body of a 40-year-old woman, who had gone missing from Maloya last evening, was found today in a forest area hardly 50 metres away from her house. Socks were found stuffed in her mouth.

The police said it was suspected that the victim was raped before being murdered. However, sexual assault would be confirmed only after the postmortem, which would be conducted tomorrow.

Husband had dropped her near bus stop

I dropped my wife near the bus stop at Maloya around 8 pm on Tuesday and went to meet my nephew. I was supposed to meet her at the same spot. However, on returning, I didn’t find her there. Inder, husband

The victim’s husband, an auto driver, said he, along with his wife, had come to the market last evening.

“I dropped my wife near the bus stop around 8 pm and went to meet my nephew. I was supposed to meet her at the same spot. However, on returning, I didn’t find her there,” he said.

Inder, along with his nephew, started searching for the victim. However, they could not find her following which they went to the Maloya police station.

Around 10 pm, I reported the matter to the police following which they asked me to search for her again and return if she was untraceable. “I went back to the police station around 11 pm and gave a missing complaint,” the victim’s husband said.

Today, the victim’s husband again launched a search and found his wife’s naked body in the forest area near their house. The police also reached the spot and initiated an investigation. A police official said the victim was naked. However, there were no injury marks on her body.

“Socks were stuffed in her mouth, which probably led to her death,” the police official said. A team of the CFSL visited the spot and launched an investigation. The police said the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the area was being scrutinised.

The police have questioned the victim’s husband and his nephew. Meanwhile, a case of murder has been registered.
