MLA Anmol Gagan Mann kick-starts Rs 22-crore surface water supply project for Kharar residents
The construction of the first phase of the surface water supply project (Kajauli water project) began at New Sunny Enclave on the Jandpur road in Kharar today.
Speaking on the occasion, Kharar MLA Anmol Gagan Mann said to provide surface water supply from Kajauli Water Works, the work of laying pipeline had finally begun. “The first phase of the project, slated for completion by September 2026, marks a significant step towards ensuring clean and sustainable water supply for Kharar residents,” she said.
The entire Kajauli Water Supply Project cost is estimated at Rs 150 crore, with today’s phase accounting for Rs 22.15 crore. The first phase would benefit localities of Jhungian, Mandair Nagar, Harlalpur, Jandpur and the Chandigarh road area. Subsequent phases would cover the remaining parts of the Kharar city.
Under this project, water would be sourced from the existing GMADA clear water pipeline at Sihnpur, which channels water from Kajauli to Mohali. This water would be stored in an upcoming underground service reservoir (UGSR) of 54 lakh litres capacity at Jandpur, near the Community Centre, from where it would be distributed through an extensive pipeline network.
To maintain consistent water pressure and supply, two overhead water tanks of 18 lakh litres and 9 lakh litres capacity, respectively, would be constructed at Jandpur and Mandair Nagar. A total of 8.1 km of ductile iron (DI) supply pipeline would be laid during this phase.
Prominent among those present on the occasion were Anju Chander, councillors, Water Supply and Sewerage SE Gurdesh Pal Singh, SDO Deepak Kumar and others.
