Mohali admn sends message of gender equality on Lohri

Sending out the positive message to promoting gender equality, the District Administration today celebrated “Lohri of Daughters” at the District Administrative Complex.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Sonam Chaudhary said, on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain, it was decided to observe the festival of Lohri in a different way to promote gender equality as a part of “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” campaign.

Around children from anganwaris and 31 girls from Jyoti Sarup Kanya Ashram, Kharra, were felicitated with baby kits and blankets and tracksuits besides packets of reoris, gachak and groundnuts.

Deputy Commissioner (Urban Development) Anmol Singh Dhaliwal, SDM Mohali Damandeep Kaur and Assistant Commissioner (General) Dr Ankita Kansal, who were also present on the occasion, greeted the parents of the participating children.

District Programme Officer Gagandeep Singh who organised the celebrations on behalf of Social Security, Woman and Child Welfare, Department, Punjab, said the event was slated to send the message of gender equality.

A Gidha performance followed after ceremonial lighting of the bonfire to mark the Lohri festival. ADC Sonam Chaudhary and AC (G) Dr Ankita participated also in the folk dance performances, which otherwsise featured professional artistes.

Meanwhiler, the women staff of the DC Office also danced on the tunes of folk songs at drum beats.

Earlier, the administation officials had also served tea to the visitors coming to the District Administrative Complex from the “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” Helpline Counter.
