Mohali Health Dept unaware of viral outbreak in university
Four days after a reported viral outbreak hit Plaksha University in Sector 101 here, Health Department officials and the district administration are unaware about it.
Around 40-50 students across the departments suffered cold, cough and fever-like symptoms suddenly.
A girl student reportedly tested positive for Covid.
The university authorities later arranged a medical team and gave medicines to the affected students. More than 500 students are pursuing various courses in the university.
University officials said as a precaution, they had asked the students and the staff to wear masks.
Mohali Civil Surgeon Renu Singh and epidemiologist Harman said they were not aware of it, neither had anybody intimated them about it. “We will enquire into it,” they said.
The university authorities have resorted to online classes for now and the regular classes will begin on Monday. Most students have gone back home.
On Saturday, the remaining students and the staff were seen hanging out in the campus without any restrictions.
Speaking to The Tribune on Friday, university’s Nina Mehta said, “Some 40-odd students were reported to be having cold, cough and fever on the Plaksha campus over the last few days. We took immediate cognisance and ensured all adequate measures to address the issue. To break the chain and minimise contact, classes are being held online since Wednesday.”
