Mohali hospitals told to set up flu corners

On the directions of the Punjab government, the health authorities in Mohali today directed all the government and private hospitals for setting up of flu corners to prepare for any exigency arising from the epidemic.
Flu corners will screen all suspected cases of respiratory tract infections at the earliest and ensure that movement of such cases is restricted in order to prevent the spread of the disease.
Dr Harmandeep Kaur, Epidemiologist, Civil Hospital, Mohali, said they have directed the government hospitals as well as private hospitals in the Mohali district to set up flu corners to meet any exigency. She said besides Civil Hospital in Mohali the other government hospitals are at Kharar, Gharuan, Dera Bassi and Dhakoli in Zirakpur.
She further said there are seven to eight private hospitals, including Max, Fortis, Sohana, Grecian Hospital and IVY and added that they were in regular touch with these hospitals.
Dr Kaur said the flu corners will screen all suspected cases of respiratory tract infections at the earliest and ensure that movement of such cases is restricted in order to prevent the spread of the disease.
Dr Kaur said that a meeting in this regard was also held with the authorities at Chandigarh International Airport and added a mock drill was also conducted there. She said airport authorities had turned detention rooms into isolation rooms so they have been directed to set up separate isolation rooms.
It is pertinent to mention here that in a meeting of the Punjab Cabinet headed by Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh approved the Punjab Epidemic Diseases, COVID-19 Regulations, 2020, under the ambit of section 2, 3 and 4 of the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897, to combat the menace of COVID-19 (Corona Virus Diseases 2019).
The epidemiologist said they were in touch with the immigration authorities at the airport and if there is any history of travel or history of contact with a case of COVID-19 in the last 14 days of development of symptoms, the person has to be kept in hospital isolation and the Department of Health has to be informed immediately by that doctor or hospital.
