Chandigarh, September 2

A local court has sentenced a person Dalip Kumar, resident of Mohali, to undergo five years’ rigorous imprisonment in a snatching case registered three years ago. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on him. The police had registered the case on the complaint of a woman.

She said on January 22, 2021, at 8.45 pm when she was going to market in Sector 39 here, two boys on a black motorcycle came from behind and snatched her mobile phone. They also pushed her. During investigation the police arrested two accused Dalip Kumar and Sanjay Arora.

Hukum Singh, the public prosecutor, argued that the prosecution proved the case against the accused. Counsel of the accused argued that the case was false and no incident as narrated by the complainant ever took place.

After hearing the arguments the court said the complainant identified accused Dalip, from whom the mobile phone was recovered, and the court passed the sentence against him. She did not implicate Sanjay, who was later acquitted.
