Mohali MC, admn mute spectators as anger mounts over garbage mess
Frustration among residents over the garbage continues to mount as they oppose dumping grounds in their vicinity.
Notably, residents of Phase-11, Shahimajra want the Resource Management Centre in their vicinity to be shut as it leads to unhygienic conditions near the residential areas.
At Chappar Chiri too, residents have made it clear that any move to make a new dumping ground will be opposed strongly.
Residents of Sector 74, Sector 90 and Sector 91 have also opposed such a move.
Protests against the MC and the government erupt daily. “The MC, GMADA, MLA and the government is responsible for mismanaging the situation as garbage is spilling on to the roads at the local RMC points.
Residents of Sector 74, Sector 90 and Sector 91 today met Municipal Commissioner Parminder Pal Singh and expressed their reservations regarding the restart of dumping ground near the residential area.
A delegation met Singh today and said that dumping of garbage by Corporation was started in 2005 but the court ordered it to stop in 2024 due to environmental concerns.
However, on August 13, the residents came to know that Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh has promised residents of Phase-5 to shut the dumping ground and shift it to a new place. Next day, the clearing operation began in the 14 acre land near the old dumping ground in Sector 74.
On Sunday, residents of Sector 74, Sector 90 Sector 91 and Chappar Chiri staged a protest near Industrial Area, Phase-8B.
Earlier, Shahimajra residents had staged a protest demanding the closure of the Shahimajra RMC point. Residents of Phase-11 have also been staging protest for many months against the unhygienic conditions near the Phase-11 RMC point.
