Mohali, December 26
The Mohali Municipal Corporation House today unanimously rejected Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) concept for maintenance and development of certain parts of local Industrial Area falling within the corporation limits here.
The proposal of handing over the maintenance and development of Phase 4, 5, 7, 8A, 8B, 9 (old) and Phase 9 (extension) of Industrial Area to the MIA Infrastructure Development Association (MIAIDA) was tabled in today’s House meeting held at the MC Bhawan, Sector 68, here for approval, but was immediately rejected by all councillors present there.
“The SPV concept will allow the MIAIDA to collect all types of revenue, which included property tax, water supply and sewerage charges, etc, from the area in question and use it for its maintenance and development purposes. If we allow this proposal, then same demands will start coming in from other bodies/areas. When the MC is there, no other body should be allowed for such purposes,” Paramjit Singh Kahlon, RP Sharma, SS Dhanoa and other councillors while rejecting the proposal said.
The MC gets around Rs 4 crore property tax annually from the parts of industrial area in question.
House okays water supply augmentation project
However, the House gave its nod to detailed project report (DPR) for augmentation and rehabilitation of water and supply of the town.
According to the DPR, which has been prepared under the Centre’s AMRUT project, a total of Rs 13.90 crore will be spent on upgrading water supply infrastructure in the town.
“Several works, including installation of pumping machinery at water treatment plants, boosting stations, construction of backwash collection tank and boosting stations and other repair works for effective water supply in the town, will be carried out under the project,” Mohali Mayor Kulwant Singh said in the meeting.
Terming the project as one of the most important achievements of the corporation, the Mayor said of the total project cost of Rs 13.90 crore, 50 per cent of the amount would be provided by the Government of India under AMRUT, whereas 30 per cent would be shared by the Punjab Government and the rest 20 per cent would be borne by the corporation.
Company blacklisted
The House also gave its approval to blacklist the Gurgaon-based firm, M/s Sukam Power Systems Ltd, which has installed 70 kW solar plant on roof of the MC Bhawan here. “The company has been bankrupted and closed down its office so the required repair work of solar panels was not being done,” Kulwant said.
MC to give Rs 1 crore for cow pond at Lalru
The House on Thursday gave its nod to a proposal of giving Rs 1 crore for a cow pond at Lalru. “The amount will be used to construct sheds and create other facilities to keep the cattle safe and sound. Then we will decongest the ‘gaushala’ at Mohali by shifting the extra animals from here to the cow pond at Lalru,” Mohali MC Commissioner Kamal Kumar Garg said during the House proceedings. The Mohali ‘gaushala’, which has a capacity of just 500 animals, has been keeping over 900 animals at present. “The presence of a large number of animals in a small space cause ill-effects to the health of animals,” the Commissioner said.
