Mohali, August 2
A team of the local Municipal Corporation removed encroachments and impounded carts from an illegal fruit market in Phase-11 today.
The vendors had shifted to the roadside after the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority fenced its land. The vendors staged a protest but the MC officials continued the drive.
The local residents said the government had made a provision for the vendors at the Mandi Board site, but they were not willing to run their business from there by paying charges for the site.
The encroachments had been there for years, but the authorities wake up from their slumber with a hearing in a contempt-of-court notice in the High Court scheduled for August 4.
