The Municipal Corporation will deliberate on its Rs 211 crore budget for the year 2025-2026 on March 27. Last year, the House had approved a budget of Rs 160.36 cr with no new taxes.
This year, the civic body is estimating Rs 55 crore from property tax, Rs 10 crore from Punjab Municipal Fund, Rs 1 crore from electricity cess and Rs 4.5 crore from additional excise duty. Besides, it expects to garner Rs 27.5 crore through advertisements and Rs 5.64 crore through miscellaneous funds.
According to the agenda of the meeting, Rs 129 crore are proposed to be spent on developmental works and a contingency fund of Rs 7.19 crore has been set aside.
“Roughly, it is an increase of 30 per cent from the last year’s budget. The biggest chunk of expenditure for the next fiscal year is establishment costs which roughly amount to Rs 75 crore,” said an MC official.
On March 21, the Finance and Contract Committee of the Municipal Corporation had approved development projects worth approximately Rs 80 crore and issued work orders.
New estimates for various development initiatives, to the tune of Rs 50 crore, were approved, while work orders for previously approved projects worth Rs 20 crore were also issued.
Additionally, works valued at Rs 9 crore, estimated by the Public Health Department, were approved and later, will be allocated to the department.
