Mohali, February 17
The Mohali Municipal Corporation (MMC) has come out with an idea of involving schoolchildren in the segregation of waste at source.
A resolution in this regard was unanimously passed in MMC House meeting held recently.
Under the scheme, the MMC will rope in schoolchildren to create awareness on the segregation of waste at homes, schools and other places.
Mohali Mayor Kulwant Singh said students who participate in the scheme would be honoured with cash prizes and commendation certificates.
“We are targeting cent percent segregation of wet and dry waste at source in the coming days. To give boost to the campaign, we have decided to rope in youngsters,” said Kulwant Singh.
“We will also constitute teams to identify students working actively and hold competitions related to composting at home and segregation in schools,” said the Mayor.
He said the MC had been aiming at achieving cent per cent segregation of waste at source by March 31 this year. “Achieving the target will help us in getting better rank in the Swachh Bharat Mission,” said Kulwant Singh.
