Mohali robbery cracked with arrest of two

Had targeted Phase 11 jewellery shop; illegal weapons, ammunition recovered

The police cracked a 2024 robbery by arresting two accused and recovering illegal weapons and ammunition from their possession.

The arrested accused have been identified as Amir Khan, alias Ali, 27, of Chhachhrauli village, Yamuna Nagar, resident of Sector 52, and Sagar, 22 of Sialba Majri village, resident of Burail, Sector 45.

The duo had robbed the jewellery shop, GK Jewelers in Phase 10, Mohali, on June 27 last year,

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Talwinder Singh and CIA Staff Mohali incharge Harminder Singh arrested the accused. The weapons recovered included a country-made pistol along with five live rounds. They also confiscated three chains and two artificial gold bracelets.

Based on the statement of Kunal Singh Rangi, Aerocity, Block-A, Sector-66A, a case under Section 392 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code and 25-54-59 of the Arms Act had been registered against unidentified accused at the Phase-11 Police Station.

The complainant had told police that the robbers struck when he away running an errand. His mother, Geetanjali, was alone at the shop when the two masked youths entered the shop, took out a pistol and robbed the gold ornaments kept in the glass case and fled.

During the interrogation, it came to light that the accused run a salon, Scissor Man, in Phase-11. They hatched the robbery plan after noticing the complainant’s mother being alone at the shop. The accused had first stolen a scooter and procured illegal weapons from Uttar Pradesh.

During the robbery, the accused wore a fake beard and masks. “The accused admitted that they looted about 350 gm of jewelry from the shop. Believing some of it to be artificial, they dumped it in a drain a few days after the robbery. Some of the jewellery and the black T-shirt, with ‘Gangster’ written on it, worn by Sagar at the time of the incident were found hidden at his mother’s rented room in Kharar,” cops said.
