Mohali, May 26
Two new cases of mucormycosis in the district took the patient count to 22 today.
All patients are those who have recovered from Covid recently. There are only two patients who belong to the district, while the rest all are from other districts and nearby states. The Mohali Civil Surgeon, Dr Adarshpal Kaur, said, “The caseload of Covid patients has come down considerably in the past few days. It is not that we are getting mucormycosis patients daily but the shortage of medicine is a big handicap. We hope things will improve in next one week.”
Some respite on Covid front
On the Covid front, after over a month, the active case count went below the 5,000-mark, halting at 4,722.
The district administration’s latest bed occupancy details show the availability of 247 L2, L3 beds (25.3 per cent), including 22 ventilator beds in private hospitals.
As of now, there are a total of 4,577 Covid patients in home isolation. As many as 2,971 samples have been taken in the past 24 hours, considerably less than the average 4,000 samples being taken daily. A total of 6,224 persons were vaccinated with the first and second dose in the district today.
