Mohali, July 29
The Vigilance Bureau (VB) arrested a revenue patwari, Tejinder Pal Singh, and his assistant Surinder Singh for demanding a bribe of Rs 1,20,000. A VB spokesperson said both were arrested following a complaint of Gian Chand, a resident of Shaktinagar, Dera Bassi.
The complainant had alleged that the patwari’s aide had been demanding Rs 1,50,000 as bribe from him in lieu of correction in the mutation of a plot purchased in the year 2002 and the deal was settled for Rs 1,20,000. The complainant had recorded the entire conversation with the assistant on his phone and submitted it to the VB as evidence.
During investigation, the allegations levelled in the complaint were found to be correct. On the basis of the inquiry, a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against the duo. The two suspects will be produced in court tomorrow.
