Mohali, April 14

A person has been booked on a charge of outraging the modesty and assaulting a 47-year-old anganwadi worker at Kharar.

The suspect has been identified as Jagjit Singh, alias Jaggi, of Machipur village. A case under sections 354, 354-A, 354-B, 354-D, 323, 341, 509, 380 and 457 of the IPC has been registered against them at the Sadar police station.

Investigating officer Balraj Singh said the police were conducting raids to nab the suspect.

The woman, in her complaint to the police, said her husband died of a heart attack in 2005 and one or two months after, Jagjit started behaving indecently towards her. She complained about this to the panchayat and after the intervention of elderly persons, they reached a compromise.

She alleged the suspect did not behave properly and again started harassing her. One day, he molested her in the primary school at Machipur and tore her shirt with the intention of humiliating her, besides assaulting her. She had lodged a complaint against him with the Gharuan police station.

Recently, Jagjit entered her bathroom and took away her undergarments. On April 6, he teased her while she was going to work.
