Monika Pandey (158) and skipper Amanjot Kaur (141) came up with brilliant unbeaten centuries to help Chandigarh continue its winning streak in the ongoing Women’s U-23 One Day Trophy. The city girls registered a convincing 255 runs win over Manipur at the Ravenshaw University ground in Cuttack today.
City skipper Amanjot won the toss and opted to bat. The side scored 336/1 in allotted 50 overs. The opening pair of Monika and Amanjot took the responsibility to ensure an easy win as they raised an unbeaten partnership of 336 runs. Amanjot was the only one to lose her wicket as she was run out by Manimacha Angom for 141 off 161 balls, with 14 boundaries, on the last ball of the last over. Monika meanwhile hogged the limelight by leaving the crease unbeaten for 158 off 141 balls, studded with 21 boundaries and one six.
Meanwhile helpless Manipur girls were bowled out for 81 runs as they totally failed to face a sedate bowling attack by city bowlers. Right-arm medium pacer Kashvee Gautam, Kumari Shibi and Rajni Devi claimed three wickets to trouble Manipur girls.
The side opened with Ronibala Thokchom and Prety, but the duo managed to raise only 10 runs. Kumari accounted for Ronibala wicket for a naught. Prety was the next to go after being trapped lbw by Rajni for 3. Kalpana thereafter joined Kiranbala Haorungbam but once again the side failed to get a much needed good start. The duo raised a 13-run partnership for the 2nd wicket, before Kashvee bowled out Kiranbala (4). Skipper Linthoingambi Rajkumari then joined kalpana and they managed to raise a 42-run partnership, the highest for Manipur, to push the total to 65 runs. However, Rajni struck once again and accounted for the Manipur skipper Linthoingambi (25) who remained the highest scorer for the side. After her wicket, the entire Manipur side collapsed within total of 16 runs. Rajni accounted for her third wicket as she claimed Kalpana (20), the second highest scorer for Manipur.
Kumar was brought back to the attack and she achieved success by claiming Manimacha Angom (1) and Khumbongmayum Bidyarani (0) to reduce the side to 75/6. Parushi Prabhakar also managed to bag one wicket as she claimed L Linthoi for a duck, while Kashvee accounted for Chong (2) and Niruka (0) pack the side for 81 runs in 34.2 overs. Kashvee completed her spell by claiming 3/8, while and Rajni (3/13) and Kumari (3/19) were the other two among the best bowlers for Chandigarh. Parushi claimed her only wicket of the match for 17 runs. Chandigarh will now take on Nagaland on February 6 in their next fixture.
