Month on, Mani Majra residents still await 24x7 water supply
One and a half months after Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the 24x7 water supply project at Mani Majra on August 4, residents still await round-the-clock supply.
The roads, which were dug up for laying water supply lines, have not been repaired yet. Local residents face a lot of inconvenience due to dug-up roads, especially during rainy days.
“Leave alone the 24x7 water supply, the roads, which were dug up for laying the pipelines for the project, have not been repaired yet. Residents are complaining about inconvenience caused to them,” said councillor Suman.
Shanti Nagar, Madiwala Town, Peepliwala Town, Bank Colony and Police Colony areas were supposed to get the round-the-clock water supply From August 7.
The MC had stated that Subhash Nagar, Indira Colony, Motor Market and Shivalik Enclave would get 24X7 supply from August 19 to 23; and the area, comprising Modern Housing Complex, duplex houses, Rajiv Vihar and Uppal Marble Society, from August 24 to 28. However, the MC claims proved false.
Local residents also complained about low-pressure and contaminated water supply. MC officials said it would take, at least, three more months to get the project stabilised and to ensure seamless 24x7 water supply in a phased manner. Mayor Kuldeep Kumar Dhalor said the officers concerned were already on the job and residents would soon get round-the-clock supply.
The project cost was pegged at Rs 75 crore, while maintenance and operational cost of the pilot project was estimated to be Rs 91.29 crore for 15 years.
