Qualified for the first time in the pre-quarterfinal, Chandigarh lads faced the heat as Madhya Pradesh managed to claim a solid 380-run lead during the Vijay Merchant Trophy in Ahmedabad.
In reply to Madhya Pradesh’s first innings total of 313, Chandigarh batters failed to perform and were bundled out for 124. In their second innings, Madhya Pradesh continued their excellent performance to post 191/4 before the draw of stumps.
Anurag Budhwar scored 47 off 129 balls, with six boundaries, to remain the top scorer for the side. Abhay Singh Gulia (31 off 87 balls, with three boundaries) and Akul Bhanot (20 off 71 balls, with one boundary) were the other batters to contribute in double figures. Yashbardhan Singh Chauhan claimed 5/18 for the bowling side, while Anjesh Pal and Ritik Parab bagged two wickets each. Arnav Sharda picked one.
In their second innings, Madhya Pradesh middle order played well to help the side recover from early losses. Sharda scored an unbeaten 72 off 117 balls, with seven boundaries and two sixes, while Karan Tomar contributed 21 off 91 balls, with two boundaries, and Chauhan contributed 37. Rithwik Sood claimed 3/44 for the bowling side, while Abhay Singh Gulia picked one.
