Amid Kharar residents’ mounting anger over the pitiable state of basic infrastructure, including roads, drainage system and power setup, Anandpur Sahib MP Malvinder Singh Kang visited the city to take stock of the situation. The MP toured various parts of Kharar — which is represented by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Anmol Gagan Mann in the Assembly — including the Kharar-Landran road, Nijjer Chowk, Sunny Enclave and gathered feedback.

During an interaction with Kang, residents narrated their woes, criticising the poor condition of roads and non-existent sewerage lines that lead to waterlogging even after light rainfall.

After visiting Ward No 13, Kang said, “There is no doubt that people are suffering here. There are many issues that need to be resolved and that is why I have come here along with councillors and Municipal Council (MC) officials. We are here to understand the problems and will work on resolving them within a year.”

Notably, residents of Chajjumajra, Santemajra, Khunimajra, Shivalik City and housing societies on Kharar-Landran road have been complaining of waterlogged roads and potholes for a long time.

Frustration has also mounted over the frequent power cuts that last up to 10-12 hours and residents urged the MP to help set up a new Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) grid.

“We have no option left but to stage a sit-in outside the PSPCL office. If there is no power supply for 10 hours, what will we do sitting at home? It is better to sit outside PSPCL office and urge the officials to do address the issue,” said Rajwinder Gill, a Kharar resident.

Meanwhile, several residents and leaders from political parties staged a sit-in protest near JTPL society in Kharar to highlight the bad condition of roads in the area.

Notably, the AAP government and the local administration were left embarrassed after a public transport bus stuck on the waterlogged Kharar-Landran National Highway had resulted in widespread ridicule and criticism on social media.
