To revive the first multi-level parking lot of the Municipal Corporation in Sector 17, the civic body has given it a makeover. To ensure that the Rs 48-crore parking facility, which was built in 2016, does not remain vacant anymore, several amendments have been made. Automatic boom barriers, dispenser, computer, controller and display screen have been provided at the site.

‘Aim is to make it work’

The corporation has also provided the facility of POS machines and UPI scanner at the entrance/exit points.

Arrow marking has been done at the entry and exit points in paint. Boom barrier and dispenser, computer, controller, display screen have been repaired/provided at parking lot.

For road marking, reflective paint, signage and “sheeting under joints to control leakage”, the tender process is on. Besides, the parking staff have also been strengthened. Uniform has been provided to 12 persons and is being provided to the other 12. The MC is trying to procure a walkie-talkie for proper coordination between those duty at different levels. “Our aim is to make the multi-level parking work. We have made changes at the parking lot. We will ensure that people use this parking,” said MC Commissioner Anindita Mitra.

At present, the parking rates at the multi-level parking are Rs 5 and Rs 10 for two and four-wheelers, respectively. Still, many visitors do not prefer to park here even as other open parking lots remain jampacked.

People either find the open parking lots near the markets convenient or are unaware about this facility. The civic body will request shop owners to park their vehicles at the multi-level parking and will also put up boards directing towards this parking facility.

The much-hyped parking has often been in the news for remaining vacant and leakage inside. Earlier, a vigilance team had also inspected the lot after a complaint about several discrepancies in the construction.
