MC Commissioner Amit Kumar said the comprehensive sanitation campaign was aimed at preventing waterlogging, curbing the spread of vector-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria, and improving overall public health and sanitation in the city.

He said under the initiative, dedicated teams would carry out intensive cleaning of roads, drains, public spaces and garbage-vulnerable points. Waste would be collected in a systematic manner, segregated at the source and sent to the appropriate processing facilities to ensure scientific and sustainable waste management.

“By involving all departments and encouraging citizen participation, the MC aims to set a benchmark in monsoon preparedness and urban cleanliness,” said Kumar.

The commissioner said the fortnightly deep cleaning drive would continue throughout the monsoon period. The MC has also set up a helpline for citizens to report sanitation-related issues during the campaign.

18 flood control teams

MC Commissioner Amit Kumar has constituted 18 special flood control teams and operationalised seven flood/waterlogging control rooms across the city. These arrangements will be in force from June 20 to September 30 to ensure swift response and redress of waterlogging and rain-related emergencies. Each control room will function 24x7 with designated teams working in three shifts. Citizens can lodge complaints regarding waterlogging on dedicated control room phone numbers.
