Murder at District Court: Victim’s uncle joins probe

Kuldeep Singh, uncle of deceased Harpreet K Singh, today appeared before the police at the Sector 36 station, following the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Harpreet, an Indian Civil Accounts Services (ICAS) officer, was allegedly shot by his father-in-law, Malwinder Singh Sidhu, a retired AIG of Punjab Police, at the District Courts on August 3. The HC on Tuesday had directed Kuldeep, who was already before the court seeking bail in a case registered under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, to appear before the police station concerned by 8 am today.
Sources stated that Kuldeep Singh was questioned by the police and they were verifying his presence at the scene when the ICAS officer was shot dead.
The victim’s mother had alleged that Kuldeep was hand in glove with Sidhu and was present in the court complex at the time of the shooting.
However, Kuldeep’s counsel had refuted these claims, calling them false and baseless.
The incident had occurred at a mediation centre in the court complex. The assailant fired four shots, two of which hit Harpreet.
The shooting took place amid an ongoing matrimonial dispute between the ICAS officer and Dr Amitoj Kaur, whom he married in 2020. The case had been referred to the mediation centre. The shooting happened during the fourth mediation session.
