The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) arrested Bhivamtej Singla, Assistant Jail Superintendent, Central Jail, Nabha, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.
Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the VB said the jail official was arrested following an inquiry into a complaint lodged on the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line. He added that a complainant from Patran town in Patiala district had alleged that the official was allegedly harassing her husband, who was lodged at the Nabha jail, and demanded Rs 20,000 as a bribe. The complainant paid Rs 10,000 as bribe via Google Pay.
The spokesperson informed that after an inquiry, the allegations levelled in the complaint were found to be true and a corruption case was registered against the jail official at the VB police station here.
“The accused had been at large and his bail application was dismissed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. After he surrendered in the court, he was taken into one-day police remand,” said an official. Further investigation into the case was under progress, he said.
