A national-level single-theme conference on gastrointestinal emergencies started at the PGIMER here today.

Continuing till September 15, the conference is being organised by the PGI Department of Gastroenterology, which is headed by Prof Usha Dutta. She is also the chairperson of the conference.

The event, which is being attended by faculty and delegates from across the country, is focusing on the management of gastrointestinal and liver-related emergencies.

Dr Usha said the conference was now in its eighth edition, which affirmed the commitment of the department to reducing the knowledge gap between first-contact doctors, who manage patients in emergency, and specialists.
