As per the new design, the building would have six floors and parking for nearly 600 vehicles in the basement. The height of the building would be equivalent to the height of the UT Secretariat building in Sector 9, said an official.

After finalising the design, the department submitted it to the DC office for approval, the official said, adding that the office had recommended some alterations in the earlier design.

After getting approval from the DC office, the Engineering Department would prepare a budget estimate for the new building. After getting approval for the budget, tenders would be floated for the construction of the building, said the official.

After the construction of the building, various departments, including Registrar, Cooperative Societies, Excise and Taxation Department, Census Department, Election Commission, Estate Office, Revenue Department, Tehsildar office, Food and Civil Supplies, Labour and Employment and Industries would be shifted here.

As per the new design, the building would have a rooftop solar energy plant and a sewage treatment plant.
