New gate welcoming visitors to Mohali on the cards
The administration is mulling constructing a new welcome gate in Derabassi, dubbed a “Gateway of Punjab” in a bid to enhance the visual appeal of the district.
The suggestion was made at a high-level administration meeting with officials from the Municipal Corporation (MC), Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) and various Urban Local Bodies.
As per the proposal, steel signage boards similar to those on Airport Road could be set up to greet and guide commuters with destination markers.
Other suggestions included the development of green belts and the installation of paver blocks along the roads.
Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal, meanwhile, expressed concern over the issue of roadside littering and indiscriminate dumping of construction and demolition (C&D) waste. She emphasised the urgent need for designated sites and directed GMADA officials to prepare a proposal for a large-scale recycling plant to convert such waste into usable construction items like bricks and blocks.
Mittal noted that GMADA-managed areas have shown recurring issues with waste collection and asked for immediate corrective steps. She called for the beautification of main roads connecting Mohali to Chandigarh and neighbouring states.
