Chandigarh, November 5
With the aim of curbing favoritism and corruption in the deployment of police personnel in the traffic wing, the UT police have introduced a new manpower management policy on an experimental basis. Now, the staff will be given a fixed weekly off with fixed replacement, curtailing discretion of the deployment officer.
The SSP (Traffic), Manoj Kumar Meena, said they were experimenting with the new manpower management policy in the traffic police. “The staff posted in the traffic wing will be given a fixed weekly off with fixed replacement that will remove the discretion in the hands of the deployment officer,” said the SSP.
Meena said the system would bring more clarity in the weekly schedule for personnel and curb favoritism or corruption.
“Earlier, there was no fixed rest day for police personnel. However, now there will be a roaster of off days. This will also end indiscipline in the force as earlier, personnel would sometime avail several days of leave together by not taking offs,” said the SSP.
According to the system, the duty and replacement roster will continue to be randomly prepared through a software with zero human interference.
The fixed off days roster will also deal with the issue of stress among police personnel. There have been instances when police personnel complained of stress due to long duty hours and no rest day given to them.
The results and feedback of the manpower management policy will be evaluated at the end of November.
