Newly elected president of District Bar Association Ashok Chauhan promises welfare for advocates

Ashok Chauhan, newly elected president of District Bar Association Chandigarh, has pledged to work for the welfare of advocates in District Court Chandigarh. Chauhan, who has been elected president for the fifth time, defeated Sunil Toni by securing 991 votes against Toni’s 884 votes.

Chauhan, who was enrolled as an advocate in 1990, has previously held the positions of president in 2005, 2013, 2014, and 2018, as well as vice president in 2001. Other newly elected officials include Sandeep Gujjar (28) as vice president, Amish Sharma as secretary, Ujjwal Bhasin as treasurer, and Pooja Diwan as joint secretary, who was declared the winner unopposed.

Chauhan has outlined several priorities, including ensuring proper sitting arrangements for newly enrolled advocates, installing charging stations for electric cars in court premises, and expanding the panel of hospitals for treatment of Bar members and their families. Additionally, he aims to update the library with crucial publications for advocates and provide free parking space for advocates and their staff.

He said he will also ensure proper maintenance and cleanliness of washrooms and regular supply of water in the lawyers’ chamber complex and service block.

The election process was conducted peacefully, with Advocate Poonam Thakur, Assistant Returning Officer, overseeing the proceedings.
