NGT disposes of case against farmhouse
Disposing of a case against a Nayagaon-based farmhouse, Hermitage, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) directed the state to ensure action against other such venues that were engaged in commercial activity on land delisted from the forest area.
Directing the state authorities — Punjab Pollution Control Board, Town and Country Planning Department and the Forest Department — the NGT, in its orders, stated that the enforcement agencies should not single out a particular venue and act against other violators too.
Earlier, the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) had withdrawn the “consent to operate” granted to Hermitage for engaging in commercial activity on land delisted from the forest area on the basis of a report submitted by a joint committee, comprising the representatives of the Central Pollution Control Board, Punjab State Pollution Control Board and the District Magistrate, Mohali.
An application was moved by Rana Iqbal Singh Golly against the open-air banquet. During hearing, it was pointed out that there were other violations that had been overlooked.
