The NIA court in Chandigarh has issued an open-dated non-bailable warrant against Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terrorist Shamsher Singh alias Shera in connection with the grenade attack case in Sector 10, Chandigarh. The court’s decision comes after the NIA filed an application seeking the issuance of a non-bailable warrant against Shamsher Singh, citing sufficient evidence of his involvement in the conspiracy.

According to NIA, Shamsher Singh is a close associate of co-accused Harpreet Singh alias Happy Passia, a US-based gangster-turned-terrorist. The investigation revealed that Shamsher Singh introduced Abhijot Singh to Harpreet Singh, and on his instructions, Abhijot Singh conducted reconnaissance of the targeted retired Punjab Police officer. Shamsher Singh also provided funds to Abhijot Singh through UPI when he returned to India in June 2024.

NIA claimed that despite issuing notices under Section 35(3) of the BNSS, 2023, Shamsher Singh could not be served as he was not available at his addresses. Reports from the village head suggested that Shamsher Singh has been absconding from the village for the past two to three years.

After hearing the arguments, the court found sufficient evidence to substantiate Shamsher Singh’s active involvement in the conspiracy. Since he is not responding to notices and is not available at the given addresses, the court allowed the prosecution's request and issued an open-dated non-bailable warrant against Shamsher Singh alias Shera alias Honey.

NIA has already filed a charge sheet in the case, naming US-based Harpreet Singh and Pakistan-based Harwinder Singh Rinda as the masterminds behind the attack. The agency is continuing to probe the wider angle of the conspiracy and the smuggling of weapons and explosives across borders.
