Night-long showers keep Chandigarh, Mohali inundated

The nightlong showers once again inundated most parts of Chandigarh and Mohali, exposing the civic mess due to the inefficiency of the municipal corporations of both the towns.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain coupled with thunderstorm and lightning at isolated places in Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana for the next three days, beginning Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Chandigarh received 41.4-mm and Mohali 31-mm downpour during the past 24 hours, which kept the low-lying areas, major roads and junctions waterlogged, much to the inconvenience of the locals.

Chandigarh recorded the third-highest rainfall in the region during the past 24 hours after the highest of 69.5-mm downpour at Pathankot in Punjab followed by 55.6-mm at Karnal in Haryana.

As the day remained almost dry, the mercury shot up compared to Monday after the night temperature fell slightly. The relative humidity was 91% in Chandigarh on Tuesday.

Chandigarh recorded 31.8 degrees Celsius maximum temperature, while the minimum temperature was 24.3 degrees Celsius.

Even as Panchkula experienced the lowest rainfall, it remained the least hot place in the tricity with 30.5 and 24.5 degrees Celsius maximum and minimum temperatures, respectively. Panchkula, along with Gurugram, recorded the lowest minimum temperature in Haryana.
