Nine vehicles impounded as police crack down on drunk driving in Panchkula

Giving top priority to road safety and determined to curb the dangerous practice of drunk driving, the police issued 127 challans over four days, with nine vehicles impounded for drivers found heavily under the influence of alcohol.

The operation, supervised by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP, Traffic) Surender Singh, was carried out through th ‘Drink and Drive’ checkpoints at various locations. Around 1,670 motorists were thoroughly checked, with police teams using alcohol sensors to confirm intoxication levels before initiating immediate legal action.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shrishti Gupta, meanwhile, said there would be zero tolerance for those caught driving under the influence.

“Drinking and driving is not only a life-threatening risk for the driver but also for other road users. The aim of the Panchkula Police is to reduce road accidents and ensure a safe traffic environment. Any driver found operating a vehicle while intoxicated will face legal action without exception, and where necessary, their vehicle will be impounded,” she further affirmed.
