A fine ton by Mohali’s Nirmal Singh went in vain as Amritsar qualified for the semifinals of the Punjab State Inter-District Men’s Tournament on the basis of the first innings lead.

In reply to Amritsar’s first innings total of 426 runs, the Mohali lads were bundled out for 325 runs. Nirmal posted 105 off 173 balls, with 12 boundaries, to help the side achieve 325 runs. Dushyant Singh (86 off 153 balls, with 12 boundaries) was the other notable scorer for the side. Deepanshu Chadha grabbed 4/72, while Arjun Papal took 3/85 for the bowling side.

Earlier, Amritsar posted 426 runs in 87.4 overs in their first innings with the help of Abhay Chaudhary (127 off 137 balls, with 16 boundaries and three sixes).

Ropar log win

Ropar logged a four-wicket win over Faridkot to qualify for the semifinals. Batting first Faridkot bundled out for 142 runs in 42.1 overs. In reply, Ropar lads scored 216 in 47.4 overs in their innings. Karman Preet (91 off 96 balls, with eight boundaries and four sixes) and Jeevanjot Singh (51 off 70 balls, with four boundaries and two sixes) were the main scorers for the side. Simranjeet Singh claimed five wickets, while Rajvansh Sekhon took three and Tanishq Ahuja claimed two.

In their second innings, Faridkot posted 243 runs in 38.4 overs. In reply, Ropar achieved the target of 174 runs in 41 overs. Madhav Singh (35), Jeevanjot (34), Mayank Gupta (33) and Mohit Bhatt (33) were the main scorers for the side. Simranjeet Singh claimed three wickets, while Naman Dhir took two for the bowling side.

Meanwhile, Nawanshahr also qualified for the semis on the basis of the first innings lead against Sangrur.
