Panchkula, June 29
The district police authorities today issued orders prohibiting people from going to the banks of rivers and drains.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Surinder Pal Singh said Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure-1973 had been imposed in view of the ensuing monsoon season. He said going to the banks of all rivers and streams of Panchkula and performing any kind of social, political and religious rituals and programmes near these was banned with immediate effect. The orders would remain in effect till September 30.
The DCP said the ban was imposed on bathing of any child or adult near their banks of Ghaggar, Kaushalya, Sirsa, Jhajjara and Tangri rivers and their tributaries. He said due to rains, the water level of Ghaggar and its tributaries rises and flood-like situation was created, which could lead to loss of life and property.
The DCP said the orders had been given to all station house officers and police post incharges that if any person was found violating the ban in their respective areas, a case under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code should be registered against the violator. The orders had also been pasted on the notice boards of all block development and panchayat offices, gram panchayats, bus stands and the Municipal Corporation, Panchkula, he added.
