Chandigarh, January 18

The local athletics association has to arrange sleeping mattresses and cover it with a tent cover for use as long jump landing mat during the North Chandigarh Athletics Meet.

The association, which had previously arranged the equipment for the Indian Grand Prix, failed to get support from the UT or Panjab University. This is not the first time that such scenes were witnessed during a state meet.

The UT Sports Department has advertised three different tenders to procure goods, even as the association relies on government help.

Ironically, the association claims to have taken the equipment from NIS Patiala for conducting the last year’s Indian Grand Prix, which was allotted by the national athletics’ federation. However in case of conducting state meet, the association decided to conduct the event with whatever resources it had.
