Not given Rs 5K to celebrate birthday, youth kills father

A youth killed his father with scissors for not giving him money to celebrate his birthday at Patton village in Bassi Pathana subdivision of the district today.

Bassi Pathana DSP Raj Kumar said Ranjit Kaur, the wife of deceased Paramjit Singh of Patton village, reported that she has two sons — elder son Harshpreet Singh, who is living abroad for about four years, and younger son Varinder Preet Singh (24). Today was Varinder’s birthday. He asked his father Paramjit for Rs 5,000 to celebrate his birthday, but the latter gave him only Rs 1,000. Varinder insisted on giving Rs 5,000 and an argument ensued.

The complainant said her son got angry and started quarrelling with his father. As Kamaljit Singh, her nephew, came to her house and tried to pacify both the father and the son, Varinder picked up scissors lying nearby and stabbed his father in the chest and stomach. Kamaljit was also injured in the attack. Meanwhile, Varinder fled the scene.

The complainant said both injured were rushed to the Civil Hospital, Fatehgarh Sahib, where the doctors declared Paramjit dead.

The DSP said the Badali Ala Singh police had registered a case against Virender. They are carrying out raids to nab him.
