To make it easier for people to find a public toilet, the municipal corporation (MC) has become tech savvy and is using an online technology to locate the nearest facility.
Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla said here today that, “All toilets are now marked on online maps, so anyone can locate the nearest facility quickly. QR codes have also been installed in many toilets, allowing users to report issues like uncleanliness, water shortages or repairs, if needed,” she added.
More than 300 public toilets in markets, parks and green belts and community toilets in colonies are being regularly cleaned to ensure hygiene for users. Cleaning staff have been provided with gloves, aprons and other safety gear to protect them while they work.
Women toilets are now equipped with incinerators to safely dispose of used sanitary pads, making them cleaner and more convenient. Additionally, green spaces with plants are being created around toilet areas to improve air quality and make the surroundings more pleasant.
Speaking about ensuring regular cleaning, Amit Kumar, Commissioner, MC, said that the management of these toilets was being handled by market and resident welfare groups, self-help groups and contractors. A digital system is being used to track cleaning staff, ensuring that toilets remain well maintained. Steps are also being taken to provide fair and equal salaries to all workers.
He further said that with these efforts, the MC was committed to providing clean, accessible and eco-friendly public toilets to all residents and visitors.
