Know ‘divya nayan’
- DIvya Nayan is a a personal reader machine for visually impaired that can scan and read approximately 50 pages, depending upon the size and content, once fully charged. It can store more than 10,000 pages in its memory .The CSIO has transferred the technology for the manufacture of ‘Divya Nayan’ to the Central Electronics Limited (CEL), a government enterprise.
The Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIO) today transferred the technology for the manufacture of ‘Divya Nayan’ a personal reader for the visually impaired, to the Central Electronics Limited (CEL), a government enterprise under the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, for commercial production and marketing.
The technology has been transferred for the upgraded version of Divya Nayan said Ashish Gaurav, one of the developers of Divya Nayan. He said this personalised reading device is now equipped with the most compact form factor as compared to commercially available devices worldwide.
The portable device can scan and read approximately 50 pages, depending upon the size and content, once fully charged, and can store more than 10,000 pages in its memory. Divya Nayan also supports major regional languages without the need of Internet connectivity.
The device can also be connected to the Internet via wi-fi for cloud-based document processing and sharing, online news reading and over-the-air software upgrade. It is capable of processing printed information captured in any external lighting condition. The inbuilt document analysis of the device helps the user to scan a page in any direction and read documents with multiple columns of text while automatically rejecting all the embedded images.
Prof RK Sinha, Director, CSIO, said the successful trials of Divya Nayan were conducted at various institutes and NGOs, which indicate the huge demand of this device which is available in different working models Feedback received from various tests has been incorporated in the device to make it more user-friendly and further upgrade is possible.
The transfer of technology agreement was signed by Dr Surender Singh Saini, Head, Business Initiatives and Project Planning, CSIO and BN Sarkar, chairman-cum-managing director, CEL.
