Earlier, the Municipal Corporation has prepared a detailed project report. In the first meeting of the Panchkula Metropolitan Development Authority, the Chief Minister had announced that the education city and the habitat centre in Sector 1 would be developed by the PMDA. However, later the Chief Minister announced that as the 250-acre land in the Chandimandir area is of the Municipal Corporation, so the education centre would also be developed by it.

The work on the project is likely to start soon. After the announcement by the MC to develop the education city, various major educational institutes and groups had shown interest for investing in the project.

According to information, the land would be allotted to law, architecture, engineering and technology, dental and business schools, besides various institutes for starting various professional courses. Various educational groups have shown interest in purchasing land for setting up a university.

It is pertinent to mention here that after the introduction of change of land use rates by the state government on a par with Punjab, several people are now ready to set up projects in the area. After the setting up of the education city, students of the region would not have to go to Chandigarh, Kurukshetra or Delhi for higher education.

Confirming the same, local MLA and Haryana Assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta said earlier the education city was to be set up by the Panchkula Metropolitan Development Authority. He said a meeting of the PMDA was held recently in which it was decided that as the land belonged to the Panchkula MC, so the education city would be set up by the civic body.
