An NRI philanthropist based in Milwaukee, USA, Dr Dharampal Jain, dedicated to the cause of poor and destitute patients, showcased another exemplary gesture by lending a helping hand to the needy patients. He donated $ 1,500 (Rs 1,11, 000) for the poor patient cell of the PGIMER today.

Dr Jain handed over the cheque for $ 1500 to Prof AK Gupta, Medical Superintendent-cum-Head, Department of Hospital Administration, at the DPGI’s office in the PGIMER, in the presence of SP Jain, Additional Solicitor General of India and former Member of Parliament, and other senior functionaries of the institute.

Expressing his views on Dr Jain’s benevolent act, Prof Gupta said, “It seems charity is innate to Dr Jain as he has been magnanimously contributing to the cause of the poor and needy patients in assorted forms, be it donations in money, medicines or treatment for the ‘not so privileged’ patients from time to time at various institutes. Such gestures of benevolence by the philanthropists go a long way in benefiting the poor ailing humanity.”

“With his compassionate initiative, Dr Jain has also set a role model for others to emulate as supporting and hand-holding destitute patients is a true service to mankind,” Prof Gupta added.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Jain, who believes in supporting need-specific, charitable health facilities, shared, “It’s a humble effort to pay back what we owe to our motherland. God has been so kind to us with his limitless bounties. So why not share His abundant gifts with our brethren and help in alleviating their misery? This will give us peace, which no material possession can ensure.”

While sharing his sentiments SP Jain, Additional Solicitor General of India and former MP, said, “Any donation, no matter how big or small shows a willingness to help those, who are in need. Dr Jain’s caring support means so much and will definitely make a difference in the lives of many deprived patients. Do-gooders and philanthropists like Dr Jain encourage us to continue with our societal good.”

Donations are accepted either through cheque (in favour of Director, PGIMER) or in cash at the poor patient cell, near the main reception, Nehru Hospital, under section 80G of the income tax act.

The PGIMER has also started the facility of online donations on the institute website – pgimer.edu.in. After making a donation directly to the PGIs poor patient fund account, a donor can download a receipt too. Donors need not physically come to the poor patient cell of the PGIMER to donate.

The PGIMER appeals to the public to generously donate for this fund so that poor patients are provided super-specialty health care.
