Leaders of Congress-backed National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) from Panjab University submitted a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor today, demanding the installation of a statue of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh on campus. The delegation included Archit Garg, vice-president of the student council, former president Jatinder and NSUI leader Chaitanya Singh.

The memorandum, echoing sentiments shared in a letter addressed to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in March 2024, stressed Bhagat Singh’s invaluable contribution to the country’s independence movement and his deep connection to Punjab. Highlighting the great revolutionary as a symbol of courage, sacrifice and patriotism, the memorandum called for honouring his legacy in a prominent educational institution like Panjab University.

PUCSC vice-president Archit Garg added, “Bhagat Singh’s story can inspire students to develop a sense of responsibility toward the nation and society.”
