Objections pour in after second counselling for Class XI in Chandigarh
Soon after the UT Education Department issued allotment list following the second Class XI counselling, the department received as many as 72 representations by parents raising various issues regarding the admissions.
Of the 72 representations, as many as 15 demanded back the seats allotted in the first counselling. In such cases, a student willing to change the school or stream has to surrender the seat allotted in the first counselling before appearing for the second counselling of the department.
“It was made clear that if a student wishes to migrate, he/she has to surrender the previous allotted seat. The guidelines were very clear, and the parents should have followed it,” said a top official of the education department.
In other representations, meanwhile, students alleged that their name went missing despite the website confirming their admissions in the second counselling.
Parents along with their children also protested at the office of the District Education Officer (DEO) in Sector 19.
They later announced a massive protest in coming days against the department. “There are some cases, where children were allotted schools, but their name got dropped from the list suddenly. Either it’s the department’s fault or some technical glitch, we are ones to face the music,” said a parent.
As per the allocation criteria, approximately 85 per cent of total seats in local government senior secondary schools were open to Class 10 pass-outs from government schools. The seats are filled based on board exam merit, school preferences and availability of seats. The other seats are reserved for Class 10 pass-outs of local private schools and students from other states and other boards.
