Panchkula, December 3

Though Deputy Commissioner Mahavir Kaushik had recently ordered strict implementation of Covid norms amid Omicron scare, two political events – one by the BJP and the other by its coalition partner JJP – were held in the district in utter disregard to the pandemic norms.

While the district BJP concluded its two-day “training camp” at the PWD Rest House in Sector 1, the JJP organised “Jan Sarokar Divas”, which witnessed the presence of party leader Ajay Chautala.

At both events, almost all participants were seen without a mask.

The district presidents of both parties couldn’t be contacted for their comments on the matter.

Recently, the Deputy Commissioner had directed the police and other authorities concerned to challan people without a mask in public places. The local Health Department was told to ensure arrangements for any rise in coronavirus cases.

The DC had also ordered setting up a Covid care centre in Sector 9 for better care of new patients.

Meanwhile, the Health Department has increased surveillance on foreign returnees. Upon their entry into the district, returnees from abroad are tested for Covid and put in home isolation for seven days only if they tested negative. They are retested after the seven-day quarantine period is over.
