Chandigarh: Omicron variant B.1.1.529 has been found in 13 per cent of the samples from the city sent for genome sequencing on January 4. Of the 75 samples sent to CSIR-IMTECH, Mohali, the variant of concern has been detected in 20 samples, of which 10 were Omicron and the remaining Delta. These samples were from December 21 and January 2. Of the 10 samples detected with the Omicron variant, nine are positive cases of residents of Chandigarh, indicating that the variant is present in the community. —
