One held with 2.1 kg opium in Panchkula

The Anti-Narcotics Cell apprehended an alleged smuggler after recovering 2.1 kg opium from his possession.

The arrested accused has been identified as Rajesh Verma, a resident of Lakshampur, under the Ramnagar police station in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh.

The Cell, led by Sub-Inspector Praveen, received a tip-off about a smuggler supplying opium in Panchkula. The informant revealed that the suspect would be delivering opium near the parking area in front of KC Cinema, Sector 5.

Acting swiftly, the police team reached the location, surrounded the suspect, and apprehended him. Upon carrying out a search, the police recovered 2.15 kg opium.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the accused used to procure opium from the Gaya region in Bihar and sell it across the tricity area.

A case has been registered against the accused under Section 18 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Sector 5 police station.

The suspect has been presented before the court and placed under six-day police remand. During this period, the police will attempt to trace the supplier.
