Chandigarh, August 20
The Chandigarh Administration on Thursday launched the 'One Nation, One Ration Card' in the city.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given a clarion call for the launch of “One Nation, One Ration card” all over the country. This enables the beneficiaries to get ration, even when they move out to other state or U.Ts. This is particularly helpful for migrant labourers, who have to keep moving in search of work. Without portability of the ration card, these poor people were deprived of their entitlement for ration.
Prime Minister Modi had directed that all UTs must introduce this scheme on priority and become a model for the rest of the country.
During the official launch, Manoj Parida, Adviser to the Administrator,
handed over the ration cards to a few beneficiaries. Due to coronavirus, it was decided not to have any major event involving a large gathering. The cards will be delivered to other beneficiaries on the doorstep by government officials.
This new One Nation, One Ration Card introduced by Chandigarh Administration will enable the beneficiaries to get ration money in Chandigarh and Puducherry, where DBT system is prevailing. If the cardholder migrates to another state, where no DBT is available, they can draw rice, wheat and other ration items from the local ration shops. The Food and Civil Supplies Department of Chandigarh and NIC joined hands to develop the software for new ration cards. The card contains family details and bank account number of beneficiaries. The cardholders can carry it across the country.
