Only 2 of 11 liquor vends auctioned in ninth round

As many as nine liquor vends remained unsold even after the ninth round of auction held today by the UT Excise and Taxation Department. According to the department, 11 liquor vends were put up for auction, but only two, one in Sector 22 and another in Sector 17, could be auctioned.

During the previous auction held on May 26, the department was able to sell only one liquor vend located in Sector 22 out of 11 vends during the eighth round and had earned a revenue of Rs 3.51 crore. Earlier, the department had managed to allot one liquor vend in Sector 22 and another in Mauli Jagran colony after the seventh round of e-auction on May 22 and earned a revenue of Rs 7.76 crore.

The department sold only one liquor vend in the auction held on May 9 and earned a revenue of Rs 4.50 crore against the reserve price of Rs 4.38 crore. In the fifth round of auction held on May 14, the department was able to allot six liquor vends out of 17 and earned a revenue of Rs 39.60 crore against the reserve price of Rs 24.32 crore.

In the fourth round of action held on May 8, the department managed to auction 11 units out of the 21 units and earned a revenue of Rs 60.76 crore against the reserve price of Rs 47.97 crore the auction. The department was able to auction only seven vends out of 28 in the third round of auction on April 29.

On April 21, the department put up 48 liquor vends, the licences of which were cancelled for non-payment of bank guarantee, for auction. It managed to find bidders for only 20 liquor vends. The department earned Rs 131 crore against the total reserve price of Rs 109 crore.

On March 21, the department had allotted 96 liquor vends of the total 97 through e-auction and generated Rs 606 crore. However, the department had cancelled the licences of 48 vends for non-payment of bank guarantee and earned Rs 23 crore by forfeiting the earnest money and security deposits of these defaulters.
